My name is DJ Mollie, and I’ve been a music lover for as long as I can remember. Born and raised on the Island of St. Croix, U.S.V.I., then moving to Western North Carolina as a teenager, I grew up with a wide variety of musical influences. I remember dragging out my parents' record player on the daily to spend time with their vinyl collection and grooving to everything from Miles Davis, Mamas and the Papas, to Sweet Adeline’s records. I was the kid making mix tapes for all my friends.
I played trombone (in marching, pep, and concert bands), guitar, piano, sang backup, and fronted several of my own bands before starting my DJ career in 2010. What started out as a mellow side project focused on helping me learn music production, quickly bloomed into a full time love of curating vibes unique to each occasion. I love working with people to make sure their day has energy and flow, and feels like they want it to, through music. I love seamlessly mixing different genres to keep the dancefloor moving, and coming up with thoughtful transitions and wordplay to add to your surprise and delight.
I also have over 25+ years of experience working in the music industry doing festival and album release marketing, tour support, and radio and print publicity with national and international clients, so I have a great deal of understanding of what it takes to make events flow smoothly and successfully.
Outside of working on events, I love to live stream dj sets on Twitch, go see live music, get out into nature with my miniature schnauzer, and ride my road bike.
Experience: 13+ years Djing private events, dance parties & festivals, 4+ specializing in weddings
Hobbies: Road biking, adventures with my mini-schnauzer, audio books & podcasts, live streaming on Twitch, and producing music
Interesting things about me: I was born and raised in St. Croix, USVI before moving to Western NC in middle school. I’ve also been in the music and festival industry for about 25 years, so I have really eclectic taste in music.
Favorite genre of music to spin: I love classic disco and funk, especially blending with current pop bangers and latin artists.
Songs I like for when the older folks have left the dance floor: In Da Club - 50 Cent, Yeah - Usher, We Found Love - Rihanna, Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
What have I been listening to recently: I’ve been loving digging into Afrobeat artists like Burna Boy, Tems, Rema & Davido and Puerto Rican artists like Ozuna, Bad Bunny & Daddy Yankee.
My favorite moment during a wedding: Most of my favorite moments involve music that’s special to the couple and their guests, when a song comes on that they have special memories with and everyone runs to the dance floor to celebrate and add another memory with that song. To see the joy and excitement in their faces, I get goosebumps every time.
Hardware I prefer to spin on: Traktor Kontrol S4 - I came to Djing from being a musician, so I love the flexibility to set loops on the fly, sample, and mix creatively"
